Although the services offered by these aggregation websites could be quick and straightforward to use, their data might not be up to date or correct.

Criminal Background Check in Nevada

The Records, Communications, and Compliance Division of the Nevada Department of Public Safety provides personal criminal history record information to requesters. Only the subject of the identification record can request a copy of their own Nevada Criminal History Record Information. To request, complete the Request for Nevada Records of Criminal History Form, DPS- 006 (PID). Obtain a proof of identity via a fingerprint card containing a name, date of birth (DOB), place of birth (POB), sex, race, height, weight, hair color, and eye color. To request a report via mail, individuals are required to provide a valid photo ID, a self-addressed, stamped, and postage-paid envelope, together with a notarized letter with the case number and/or any other relevant information. The request must be accompanied by the required fees for the requested report. Requests requiring an extensive search will require a $40 non-refundable deposit and a $40 fee per hour for the actual staff time necessary to research and retrieve the requested information.

How Long Do Arrests Stay on Your Record in North Las Vegas?

In North Las Vegas, arrests remain on a person's record indefinitely unless they take action to have them sealed. Background checks may still reveal the arrest record even if the charges are dropped or the individual is found not guilty. After a specific waiting period that varies depending on the type of conviction, however, one may request to have their criminal record sealed.

How Can I Get My Record Expunged for Free in North Las Vegas?

Criminal records in Nevada cannot be expunged, allowing for the records to be destroyed. However, individuals can request to have their records sealed. By Statutes NRS 179, an individual may request that a court seal records of arrest, criminal conviction, acquittal, or dismissal. For a criminal record to be sealed, certain Statute of Limitation conditions, such as parole or probationary periods, must be fulfilled after the case is closed:

  • Felony in Category A or B (15 years)
  • Felonies in categories C or D (12 years)
  • Felony in Category E (7 years)
  • Gross misdemeanor (5 years)
  • DUI misdemeanor (7 years)
  • BDV (Battery Domestic Violence) misdemeanor (7 years)
  • Misdemeanor (2 years)

To seal a criminal record, petitioners may request a copy of their Criminal History Report from the Nevada Criminal History Central Repository. Then, obtain a current, verified copy of their criminal history (SCOPE printout) to seal records (including offline microfiche entries) from the North Las Vegas Police Department.

Requests for stipulations to seal municipal criminal records may be submitted to the city attorney of North Las Vegas. When the judge approves and signs the sealing order, the petitioner or legal counsel must send a copy of the signed or filed order to the entities specified in the petition and order involved in the arrests, including the city attorney's office.
